Hi, I’m Kate Mulhauser.
I am a NYC-based props artisan and coordinator with over a decade of experience. My career has spanned from assembling show prop packages for theatre to building puppets for cosplayers to carving and sculpting large props and balloon models for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I recognize the necessity for functionality, durability, and ergonomics, all while staying on a budget, and I put those considerations into my work and hold myself to a high professional standard.
Raised in a family of designers, I grew up with a strong arts background and was captivated early on by the magic of theatre and film. I went on to attend the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati to earn a BFA degree in Set Design and Props. I have been employed by Macy’s Studio since 2012, and a member of IATSE Local 764 (NYC Theatrical Wardrobe) since 2017. My passion lies in character sculpture, and my favorite project to date has been hand-sculpting the pattern reference model for Disney’s Olaf balloon in the Macy’s Parade.
